Ah, the wonder of buying DVDs. That beautiful, shiny shiny moment where you stand in the shop and pick up the boxed set of your favourite TV series (Supernatural, anyone?). You slide your hands over the cover, you gleefully turn it over to check out the special features, you make yourself walk v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y to the counter to purchase the twenty-five-odd hours of pure gun-flashlight-eyelash-puppyeyes-eyebrowofdoom-arms-singlelayers-Impala p0rn.

You take the box home. You watch pretty much all of it over the next few weeks.

And then it goes on your shelf. It gathers dust. It waits. It knows that, when the stars aline, when fates gel, just at the right moment, there will be cause to liberate it from its resting place and use the DVDs once again.

That moment is coming soon. We don’t need stars or fates or any of that. We just Tiny and her Very Ben Edlund Supernatural Marathon:

Rewatching Supernatural: A Guide

1. Make sure you are online and that you are logged into your Twitter account. If you don’t have one, it takes minutes to start one. Once logged in, we favour TweetChat – cos it’s easy and simple and clean and you can keep up that way. And if we use TweetChat, it automatically puts the #SPNRewatch hashtag on the end of your messages, so they all get lumped in with the right group of replies and general chattiness.

2. Get your DVDs/downloads/copies/versions/whatevers ready beforehand. This means the other people don’t have to wait if say, oh, your copy of Monster Movie will not let go of the disc holder and you struggle to get it out of the packaging without snapping the sodding thing in half. Ahem.

3. While watching, feel free to comment on anything and everything. It’s a watch-along, peoples, we’re here to chat about what happens therein. (Words like ARMS! GBS! GCS! Eyelash p0rn! Puppy Eyes of Doooom! etc. are expected and amusing.)

4. When the first episode finishes, make another cup of tea and get ready for the next one.

1. I’m not in the Sydney time zone – what do I do?

Take a look at Time and Date dot com to see how far out you are. If it’s still practicable, we’ll see you there!

2. Why don’t you use AIM, MSN or a similar messenger client that has a chatroom?

We want this to be seen on the Twitter timestream, as it promotes the show and helps find like-minded fools fans that would join us later for more. Also, setting up a Twitter account can be tonnes easier than making up a new messenger account. Without any nonceing about with Windows Live Fudged-Up-Enger.

3. I can do one, but I can’t stay for all three episodes. Is that ok?

Hey, you come in and out whenever you want, dude, that’s the beauty of it. I know that at least Tiny and I will be there the whole time for a triple whammy, but no-one is under any obligation to stay the whole time. It’s supposed to be fun!

4. Can we swear?

Hell yeah! At least, I do. And we do point out all the gratuitous p0rn moments.

5. What do we talk/tweet about?

Whatever you want. It’s like chatting amongst friends whilst watching – if your friends are on a different continent and you have to type what you would normally just say.

It is possible to successfully fend off a zombie attack, according to Canadian mathematicians. The key is to “hit hard and hit often.”

Oh yes, somebody actually did a study on mathematics of a hypothetical zombie attack, and published it in a book on infectious disease. So, while we still don’t know what to do if a deadly asteroid takes aim at Earth, an unlikely but technically possible situation, we now know what to do in case of a zombie attack.

“An outbreak of zombies is likely to be disastrous, unless extremely aggressive tactics are employed against the undead,” the authors wrote. “It is imperative that zombies are dealt with quickly, or else we are all in a great deal of trouble.”

Having spent a fair amount of time mixing science with beer in the wee hours while trying to finish a thesis, I’m guessing that at some point, a graduate student who had spent far too many hours tweaking a mathematical model of infectious disease in the basement of a Canadian university said something like this: “What would happen if we made it so they could come back to life?”

This was followed by the other math students in the basement gathering around the computer, happily creating a plausible model for the outbreak of infectious zombie disease, and then brainstorming on how to make their model relevant.

“Clearly, this is an unlikely scenario if taken literally,” they wrote. “But possible real-life applications may include allegiance to political parties, or diseases with a dormant infection.”

Right.

Anyway, the model focuses on modern zombies, which are “very different from the voodoo and the folklore zombies.” It takes into account the possibility of quarantine (could lead to eradication, but unlikely to happen) and treatment (some humans survive, but they still must coexist with zombies), but shows that there is only one strategy likely to succeed: “impulsive eradication.”

“Only sufficiently frequent attacks, with increasing force, will result in eradication, assuming the available resources can be mustered in time,” they concluded.

And if we don’t act fast enough?

“If the timescale of the outbreak increases, then the result is the doomsday scenario: an outbreak of zombies will result in the collapse of civilization, with every human infected, or dead,” they wrote. “This is because human births and deaths will provide the undead with a limitless supply of new bodies to infect, resurrect and convert.”

How fast do we need to deal with the outbreak? Here’s the equation they used, where S = susceptibles, Z = zombies and R = removed. If an infection breaks out in a city of 500,000 people, the zombies will outnumber the susceptibles in about three days.

Maybe being a mathematician wouldn’t be so bad, after all.

According to this german ad for private health insurance a female YED-Demon can be seen going down the commercial route to get your life force and in full public view!

Or are we just seeing things cause we sensitized our beautiful puppy eyes for all that stuff that is lurking in those shadows and under our beds (and we are not talking dust mites and dustballs here!) – we always admired YED’s subtle approach to do his bid in Season 1-3 of Supernatural, but this is a whole new strategy we have not seen coming.

Frankly, we don’t care much for the boy’s private life. In fact we are pretty sure it is much, much, MUCH more boring that our very own lives. Sure, he gets to hang out with Jensen, who wouldn’t find that exciting at first …and then once or twice thereafter…but seriously, if you get to see the same people for nine months straight and wouldn’t you just want to bail and get a new life?

Ah, simpler times.

Some of you may have heard of facebook, no? We are sure some of you very, very clever ones are trying to hunt down our little demon hunters, but you have to keep in mind, that you cannot hunt a hunter. It won’t work. It’s only going to end in tears. Or you get disspointed when you realise the one you were hunting was a fake.

We especially like how one profile says “Imposters are like cochroaches: Once you think you’ve killed ‘em all, new ones show up!” – so true.

Jim Beaver, who seems to be the only real SPN actor on facebook that we know off once said in his status message that he is “positive that Jared and Jensen are NOT on Facebook or MySpace….Just FYI” but that is not keeping anyone from hoping, right? There is hope that the Beaver is a fake and if fake Beaver says that then it could be a false positive, right? Come on, we know how your minds tick. After all it takes a crazy person to know a crazy person..or wait, no the sane ones claim to spot the crazy ones… ah forget this argument.

Anywho, who can blame you to hope? Just search (we know you have done so already but stay with us) for Jared or Jensen on myspace and facebook and you will find millions of clones out in the cyber world. Many times we have come to wonder if reality has split into several new dimensions and makes it possible for one person to be in more than one place. Sometimes that place is Kansas, mostly LA it seems. Maybe the idea of Mystery Spots across the world is as real as an index finger pointing at an idiot. Seriously, either science hasn’t had time to research all this simultaneous phenomena properly yet, or there simply IS no phenomenon. Boring as this may sound. The rule is, that the simple answer is always the right one.

Back to our question for Jared…we recently keep saying Jarhead in our minds and have no clue why. Damn the crazy!

Now, if you Jared Padalecki were to go on facebook, what would you actually do with it? And b) would you seriously use THIS –> picture for your profile?

And last but not least, Jared: WHY ARE YOU KISSING (or eating?) A CHICKEN HALF NAKED, DUDE?

Just wondering.
